The Run4Kids 5 km Run/Walk was started in 2012 to raise funds in support of children undergoing treatment for cancer. We were inspired by the story of Will Frassinelli, a VHS student who has been battling brain cancer for over ten years. Encouraged by the generosity of participants in the past Run4Kids events, we have sought out other children’s charities in the Huron County region. The event is sponsored by Virtual High School (VHS) with support from the Optimist Club of Bayfield. All proceeds will be donated to Make-A-Wish Southwestern Ontario (SWO) to grant the wish of a child with a life-threatening medical condition. The success of the Run4Kids 5 km Run/Walk charity event is dependent on your support and generosity.

Year after year, we are fortunate enough to fundraise money in efforts to grant the wish of a child facing a life-threating illness. The 6th annual Run4Kids event supported Jesse, a 10-year-old boy from Middlesex County battling cancer. Jesse is an incredibly intelligent, fascinating, and curious young boy, whose wish was granted because of the generous support of the community. Jesse and his family travelled to Costa Rica to zip-line in the rainforests, visit monkeys and sloths, and to view the beautiful waterfalls and hot springs! Jesse maintains a positive attitude, and is an absolute pleasure to be around, even after all the hardships he has faced at the mere age of 10. With the help of our community, we can work together to make another child’s wish come true in 2019.

Make-A-Wish® Southwestern Ontario Canada (SWO) grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy! They serve 16 Counties across Southwestern Ontario, including Huron County. All proceeds to Run4Kids 2019 will be donated to Make-A-Wish SWO. To learn more, please visit

Equipment: Please note that bicycles, skateboards, roller skates or roller blades are not allowed in the race. Baby joggers and small animals are allowed. Runners with baby joggers or animals should try to place themselves either at the outside edges or at the back end of the crowd for the start of the race. To ensure the enjoyment and safety of all participants, the race organizers encourage a headphone-free environment during the Run4Kids event. We feel that your experience will be greatly enhanced by leaving your musical devices and headphones at home or in the car. Running head-phone free allows you to develop camaraderie with your fellow runners and the beauty of the town. This also means that you will be able to hear the cheers and words encouragement from volunteers and spectators on your way to the finish line!

Parking: It is recommended that you park your car at the Bayfield arena or around Clan Gregor Square

Water Station: A water station will be set up at the half-way point in the course.

Awards: Following the run, be sure to join us outside Virtual High School for refreshments during the awards ceremony around 10 AM. Awards will be presented to the top 2 male and female finishers in each age category as well as the overall winners. We also have a number of prizes to be distributed in a raffle draw using your bib number.
